“Invest in our planet.” That is the theme for Earth Day 2023.
Earth Day is an event that takes place every year on April 22 that demonstrates support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, Earth Day now includes a wide range of events coordinated by EarthDay.org
This year, there are six main focuses for 2023 Earth Month, which you can discover here. We encourage all of our residents to participate in Earth Day in as many ways as possible.
There are even so many ways to make a direct impact in our Chicago community! One way is to help clean and beautify a local park. Join the Chicago Park District and Friends of the Parks on April 23, 2022, for citywide parks and preserves clean up. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up here. Over 80 parks are participating in this year’s cleanup.
Volunteers are also welcome to assist in the cleanup of the Great Western Trails and the Illinois Prairie Path on April 29th. The cleanup will begin around 9 am, and volunteers are asked to bring work gloves and garbage bags.
Spoke urges our community to continue their Earth Day activities all year long. For example, using only reusable water bottles, or shopping at sustainable brands as often as possible.
